Registration is now open for the 2nd annual Peace Village Middle School Leadership Camp, August 10th-14th, 2020. Sponsored through a partnership with EdenAcres Environmental Education and the Rotary Clubs of Forest Grove
Open to students entering grades six through nine, Peace Village teaches skills in conflict resolution, empathy, creating inner-peace, connecting with the natural world, and collaborative leadership through engagement in hands-on activities such as art, games, music, service learning projects, and field trips. The program centers its activities on non-competitive play and the exploration of media.
Special activities this year include a field trip and service-learning project at local natural areas; harvesting, preparing, cooking, and eating sustainably grown food at Nana Cardoon Urban Farm; and discovering mindfulness through the Japanese art of origami. Camp will close with a day of reflection and celebration where the whole family can come and share in what their children have been learning!
The Peace Village program focuses on four pillars designed to create community-minded youth:
mindfulness (a focus on self)
media literacy (focusing on how media impacts us)
connection to nature (a focus on how to live in harmony with nature)
conflict resolution (a focus on how to address and resolve conflict)
Peace Village Summer Camp will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday - Friday, and will take place at both the Forest Grove United Church of Christ, 2032 College Way, and on the Pacific University campus. The camp is $180 and scholarships are available. Snacks are provided, campers bring their own lunch.
To register, fill out our online Camp registration form. For questions about the program and registering, please contact Fallon Harris via email at email@example.com
Peace Village Middle School Leadership Camp is looking for both high school-aged and adult volunteers to assist in varying capacities in this year’s camp. Volunteer needs include coordinating volunteers, coordinating food, assisting with camp logistics and support with camps during the course of the week. Lunch and snacks will be provided to all volunteers.
